Darmasiswa scholarship is a scholarship offered to international students coming from countries that have diplomatic relations with Indonesia to study Indonesian language and culture. This scholarship is organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition to building stronger culture relations and tolerance between Indonesia and the partner countries, this scholarship is aimed at introducing Indonesian language and culture to the youth from all over the world. Therefore, the scholarship grantees are placed in one of the universities in Indonesia listed by the Ministry of Education and Culture to study Indonesian language and/or culture such as traditional dances, music, and art and craft.
There are two schemes of the Darmasiswa scholarship, they are :
Darmasiswa scholarship grantees at Itenas will be focused to study Indonesian language for speakers of other languages, known as Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing (BIPA), and at the same time will be involved in Sundanese cultural events held by the students activities center, more specifically LISENDA (Lingkung Seni Sunda). Sundanese culture that grantees will learn include Sundanese dances and music (esp. angklung).
In addition to language and cultural knowledge, grantees will get monthly stipend covering living cost, book allowance, local transportation, health, and pocket money. This stipend is paid by BPKLN (Bureau of International Cooperation Planning) of Indonesia.
